Assassin's Creed III has officially been announced

Assassin's Creed fans can rejoice as the true sequel in the Assassin's Creed series has now been officially announced. We all knew it was coming but there were lots of rumours as to where the game would be set. Well fret no longer, unless of course you wanted a different setting like Egypt.

Following a leak from Best Buy and Game Informer earlier today the internet were shown images of the new character with a background of an American flag, wielding a tomahawk and pistol in a piece of promotional art. These pieces of art have since been confirmed and Game Informer have also confirmed their April issue with a 13 page cover story piece on Assassin's Creed III.

So Assassin’s Creed III will be set within the American Revolution in the latter half of the 18th century where the new hero of the game is caught within the conflict.

Ubisoft have now confirmed the release and the game's setting by releasing an image of the box art we can expect for the game's release. More information will be announced soon, which we imagine will include a release date. However after BioShock Infinite's release date announcement earlier in the day I wonder which will come out first, as they are perhaps the biggest releases of 2012.
